I was lucky to testfly the Phenix Autogyro. It is the only autogyro/gyrocopter in production with tractor-configuration and has eliminated many CG-related problems of pusher-prop equipped autogyros. The controls are easy and intuitive. I am confident we have a new generation of gyrocopters here.

If you are broke, you don't fly...and don't ASS U ME just because you are on the tax payer's gravy train that you can force overly complex helicopters to fly if they are being rebuilt. The dirty secret of helicopters is they HAVE TO BE REBUILT after x amount of hours or else they crash and burn. A simple fixed-wing aircraft only needs its engine rebuilt after many, many hours of use. Helicopters are constantly falling apart as you use them. There is a better way to get vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities: THE AUTOGYRO. The same simple engine that spins a prop that pushes a fixed-wing plane forward through the air, instead spins simple rotors overhead. Voila! No costly...

I came up with this simple stick shake design and tested this today Jan3 2012. I used an old Cessna front wheel dampener shock. After doing several things to get better balance on the rotor, I decided to try this. It removed about 70% of the remaining stick shake. Other designs like push rod springs put delay and slop into the cyclic or stick. This has no effect on the control performance just reduces vibration and shake. The side mount bracket will be replaced by a 90 degree angle steel bracket. This one was setup for the test flight only. This is not a replacement for dynamic balancing. Texas autogyro

This is a mini-review for the Cerva C2 by RC Star. The model is a standoff scale ARF model of the Cierva C-30 available on EBay at the moment. I have converted this model to electric but it comes with motor mounts and fuel tank to install a .61 glow or .91four stroke. It comes with a nice hardware package and picture based instructions on a DVD. It is quite light for a model of this size at about 7 lbs. Rotor diameter is 74". The wind was a little gusty at times from the right at 45 degrees. The plane behaved much like a model Piper Cub would have under these circumstances, so it's not a fault of the design. The damage is quite minimal and repairs can be made in a few hours. Be sure to...

This piece of video was taken at Reymerston Hall, the home of Wg Cdr Ken Wallis, who has built autogyros for many years. In this video clip, Ken is seen flying one of his autogyros. He was the pilot who designed and flew the autogyro in the Bond film, "You Only Live Twice". Ken is a remarkable man with many talents, who served as a bomber pilot in the RAF during WW2. He is now 95 years of age and still flying!!

It was very impressive to see how well the autogyro effect works on this machine. At the highest speed the tail prop was only at 25% throttle and the main rotor at 30%. Next step is to fly with up to 50% tail throttle. Will post video soon!
